STRUCTURAL SUBFLOOR VENTILATION FANS

Ventilation fans are code required for installation under structural subfloors in certain environments. 

Certain locations (the foothills of the Rockies, for example) have primarily clay soil. When the clay gets wet, it moves. To counteract potential structural damage from this movement, builders put in a structural subfloor to support the home. These pier and grade beam foundations are built eight feet underground and have a specific code requirement for forced mechanical ventilation under the structural subfloor.
